ROTOPOR® Kakteen/Sukkulentensubstrat

Rotopor® - The right soil for cacti and succulents

Cacti and succulents are not only easy to care for, they are also fascinating plants that are perfectly adapted to extreme conditions. The right soil is an important basis for them to grow healthily and develop strong roots. In contrast to conventional potting soil, these plants require a special substrate that ensures good drainage and prevents waterlogging.

Whether as a houseplant or in the garden - they bring a touch of desert flair into every home!

Advantages of cactus and succulent substrate

Optimum drainage

Cactus soil is specially designed to drain water quickly to prevent waterlogging, which could cause root rot in cacti and succulents.

Air permeability

The loose structure ensures that oxygen reaches the roots easily, which promotes root growth.

Adapted nutrient content

Cacti only need a small amount of nutrients. Cactus soil is lower in nutrients than conventional potting soil and therefore avoids over-fertilisation.

Natural

Mineral additives such as pumice, lava or gravel improve the structure and create a natural environment for the plants.

Substrates for healthy cacti and succulents

Why a special substrate?

The roots of cacti and succulents are sensitive to waterlogging. Conventional potting soil retains too much moisture, which increases the risk of root rot. The special formulation of our substrates ensures excellent drainage, optimum aeration and a sustainable supply of nutrients.

The high-quality ROTEC® mixtures are based on purely mineral components of volcanic origin:

- Lava, pumice and zeolite in different grain sizes - for a loose, permeable structure

- Peat-free - a sustainable alternative to conventional soils

Simple application & versatile use

The ready-to-use ROTOPOR® cactus and succulent soil is ideal for pots, trays or terrariums. It can be used both indoors and outdoors and provides the perfect soil for long-lasting, healthy plants.

Cacti vs. succulents: What's the difference?

Cacti and succulents are often mentioned in the same breath, but not every succulent is a cactus! The most important difference lies in their botanical classification: all cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cacti.

Succulents

Succulents are plants that store water in special tissues - usually in their leaves, stems or roots. This makes the plants particularly resistant to dry conditions. Well-known succulents include aloe vera, echeveria and agaves.

Cacti

Cacti belong to the Cactaceae family and are a special subgroup of succulents. Their distinctive feature is the presence of areoles - small, woolly or bristly pads from which spines, flowers or new shoots grow. Well-known cacti include Opuntia, Echinocactus and Cereus.

From soil to pot: planting and caring for cacti and succulents

1. the right location

- Bright light: Cacti and succulents love plenty of light. A sunny window spot or a location with at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight a day is ideal.

- fresh air: In summer, many species also feel at home outside - but make sure they are in a sheltered spot.

2 The right soil

- Permeable substrate: Use special cactus soil with lava, pumice or zeolite to improve drainage.

- Avoid waterlogging: A loose, airy substrate prevents root rot.

3. watering and fertilising

- Water moderately: Only water when the soil is completely dry. Avoid waterlogging at all costs!

- Observe winter dormancy: During the cold season, many cacti and succulents require very little water.

- Fertilise: During the growing season (spring to summer), feed every 3-4 weeks with a special cactus fertiliser.

4. Repotting and propagation

- Repotting: Repot every 2-3 years to provide fresh soil and sufficient space for root growth.

- Propagation: Many succulents can be easily propagated by cuttings. Cacti can be propagated by seeds or cuttings.
