Rotopor® - Natural pumice - The versatile lightweight building material from nature
Natural pumice, also known as pumice gravel or pumice stone, is an exceptionally light and porous natural raw material. Its formation dates back to the massive eruption of the Laacher See volcano around 12,900 years ago. At that time, large quantities of volcanic material were ejected, which still characterise the landscape of the Eifel region today.
Thanks to its unique properties - light, porous, water-retaining and heat-insulating - natural pumice is used in numerous areas. Whether as an aggregate for lightweight concrete, as a soil conditioner in horticulture or as a filter material in water treatment - this sustainable raw material is characterised by its versatility.
Whether screened pumice or washed pumice - the material is available as bagged goods, in big bags or as loose goods and is ideally suited for a wide range of applications.

Extraction and transport
Natural pumice is extracted in an environmentally friendly way using special open-cast mining methods. After extraction, the material is transported by lorry to the pumice washing plant, where it is stored openly on stockpiles. From here, it is transported via modern conveyor belt systems to the washing and sorting plant, where it is carefully processed further.
Cleaning and sorting
In the processing plant, the pumice is freed from foreign matter and sorted according to grain size and weight. To do this, it passes through several specialised processes: In the first step, the pumice is separated according to grain size for targeted further processing. The pumice is then separated from organic and heavy components as well as accompanying materials. At the same time, screened pumice is sorted by weight. As pumice has a very low bulk density (< 1kg/m³) and floats on water, sand and stones can be efficiently separated from the pumice.
Further processing and application
After cleaning, the washed and sorted material is transported to stockpiles via conveyor belts. The processed pumice is then ready for numerous applications - from the building materials industry to gardening and landscaping. Thanks to its lightness, high thermal insulation capacity and ecological properties, pumice is a sought-after raw material for sustainable construction and innovative products.
Focus on quality and sustainability
Using state-of-the-art technology and sustainable processes, we ensure that our natural pumice meets the highest quality standards. Our aim is to utilise natural resources responsibly and provide innovative products for a sustainable future.
